Commodity trade is one of the world's oldest commercial processes, extending back thousands of years. Commodities are distinct in that they have a tangible manifestation in the real world. Commodities, whether they are energy sources like oil or precious metals like gold or platinum, exist in the real world and are thus affected by real-world events. For example, if oil reservoirs are in excess, prices are expected to fall proportionally.
